While chefs are often given credit for the restaurant’s reputation, much of the responsibility for the restaurant’s success falls on the manager. A job as a restaurant manager entails more than just overseeing the floor and making sure the restaurant is fully staffed. Restaurant managers handle multiple responsibilities, including managing the kitchen staff and the all employees; estimating and ordering of the food, beverages and supplies; interviewing, hiring and training of new employees; handling customer complaints; managing payroll; adhering to cleanliness, safety and health rules and regulations; tracking inventory and purchasing equipment.
While restaurant management careers can be challenging with late hours and weekend work, they can also be very rewarding with exciting opportunities for movement and growth within the restaurant industry. Furthermore, restaurant management jobs are plentiful as new restaurants open everyday.
